"Christ's wounds do not say to the victim, "Even though he hurts you he still loves you." Christ's wounds say to the victim, "Me too."

How could one speak properly about love...

by Administrator 4. January 2017 19:57

"How could one speak properly about love if you were forgotten, you God of love, source of all love in heaven and on earth; you who spared nothing but in love gave everything; you who are love, so that one who loves is what he is only by being in you."

Soren Kierkegaard

1813-1855. Danish philosopher and writer.

Today's message deals with three ways that Christians should commit to spiritual watchfulness.  Christians must diligently watch over their soul; They must lovingly watch over the souls of fellow Believers; and they should watch over unregenerate souls.

That's why Scripture provides much exhortation for Christians to guard against Satan's temptations and traps:

Matthew 25:13 says: "Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come."

Mark 13:33 says: "Be on guard! Be alert! You do not know when that time will come."

Jesus said in Luke 21:36, "Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man."

Paul said in 1 Corinthians 16:13, "Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; BE MEN OF COURAGE; BE STRONG."

1 Thessalonians 5:6, "So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be alert and clearheaded  (7) For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night."

And then John warned in Revelation 3:3, "Remember, therefore, what you have received and heard; obey it, and repent. But if you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what time I will come to you."

Believers must prioritize personal vigilance, lovingly watching over fellow believers, and prioritize reaching unbelievers

Introduction: I have taught lessons in the past on community and mainly because as we do the Church thing we must be careful to do the Church things and NOT TO THE CLUB THING.
You know we can all create a club – I mean that’s pretty easy you find a lot of people just like you, they look like you, and they think they smell they talk like you.
But that is not what we are called to create is the Church. So with that in mind - Let’s move on to today’s lesson: and it is called - Counting the Cost of Community:
If you are going to build a church if you are really going to do it the way the Lord would have you do it – IT’s GOING TO COST YOU SOMETHING.

Philippians 2:1-11 – This will be form the New Living Translation

Paul was is here sitting the Church down a Philipi and challenging them to get back to basics

Starting at verse (1)

1Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from his love?  Any fellowship together in the Spirit? Are your hearts tender and sympathetic?

(What is he saying there - He is saying this is a football)

2Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, AND WORKING TOGETHER WITH ONE HEART AND PURPOSE.

3Don't be selfish; don't live to make a good impression on others. BE HUMBLE, THINKING OF OTHERS AS BETTER THAN YOURSELF.

4Don't think only about your own affairs, but be interested in others, too, and what they are doing.
5Your attitude should be the same that Christ Jesus had.

6Though he was God, he did not demand and cling to his rights as God.

GALATIANS 5:14-16:

14The entire law is summed up in a single command: "Love your neighbor as yourself." 15If you keep on biting and devouring each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other. 16So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature

Key Thought:

How do you handle Church life when you run into someone WITH RELATIONAL VIRUSES EVERY SINGLE SUNDAY? (I am not looking for a call out here I am serious

How do you respond to a person in your neighborhood who has deep relational problems WHO COMES STRAIGHT TO YOU LIKE GUIDED MISSILE AS SOON AS YOU STEP IN THE YARD? Truth is - We live in a world filled with people that have relational viruses. WHAT CAN WE DO REMAIN HEALTHY AND BALANCED IN HOW WE RESPOND TO THESE PEOPLE? (Even when that desperately need – healing and ministry and a place to be restored) This world is also filled with people that have unresolved anger. (Have you noticed that) Homes, churched neighborhoods and workplaces can be filled where harsh words and actions can be hurled in your direction on a regular basis.
